We had a winter storm here, and it basically rained snot last night, so the power lines are covered in ice and slush.  That is creating collapses and power outages.  It was out this morning, came back for a couple hours, and crashed again.  So my access is likely to be glitchy for a while.

Eeeeegggh! I heard from a customer earlier today how central Illinois was getting nailed. :( We're far enough north that we dodged it, but we got unexpectedly chilly wind instead. Stay safe, please!

This sounds entirely unpleasant but I freely admit I'm giggling REALLY HARD over the phrase 'rained snot'.

Okay, wow, that's not one I've run into before (& I have to say I'm pretty okay with having avoided it so far). I was thinking more the traditional 'wintry mix', which is, itself, not _near_ as lovely as the phrase describing it would imply. I'm glad you got the shopping out of the way already!

I hope you and your loved ones will remain only inconvenienced by this storm--perhaps now is a good time to do some cooking?

All-electric house. No power, no cooking. We have a wood stove and a couple of kerosene heaters to help stay warm, but in order to get the top of the wood stove hot enough to even boil water, we'd need to use up more of our limited supply of firewood, which we need to conserve for insuring sufficient heat.

Sounds like you need a camp stove or two, for emergency propane cooking. They'll use the small canisters (like you'd take backpacking) or the large ones, depending on how their valves are built, but I'm pretty sure you can get adapters as well.
