"A Solitary Fantasy"

Lawrence sat in the back of his math class
watching Stan write an algebra problem
on the blackboard, struggling with
the simple equation.

Lawrence couldn't help but admire
the firm shape of Stan's backside
under the neatly pressed khaki pants
and the way his green t-shirt
clung to his shoulders as he wrote.

In the privacy of his own mind,
he could want what he wanted.

He could imagine coming up
behind Stan and pressing himself
to the smooth curve of muscles,
think what it would taste like
to nip his way along the tan skin
of the other boy's neck.

Then Stan would turn around
and catch Lawrence in a loose hug,
lean down with a grin, and kiss him.

No doubt that would make his knees buckle,
so Stan would have to catch him, and
turn again to prop Lawrence
against the blackboard.

It was a solitary fantasy, of course,
because Stan had a girlfriend
and would surely never be interested
in Lawrence anyway.

Stan finished his assignment, incorrectly,
and was allowed to sit back down.

Lawrence began a new fantasy in which
Stan was forced to come to him for help
lest he fail math and get banned from sports.

"Lawrence, please come to the blackboard
and solve problem seventeen," Mr. Brown said.
He stood up -- and then realized his predicament.

"Omigod, he's got a boner!" Angelica squealed,
bursting into giggles along with her friends.

"Angelica, shush," Stan hissed,
blushing red. "That's not funny!"

Lawrence wanted to curl up and die.
He'd get them all back later, though --
next kidnapping, he was going to
drag Angelica through a mud puddle.

"Lawrence, you may be excused,"
Mr. Brown said gently, offering a hall pass.
"Angelica, come do seventeen through twenty."

Lawrence took the pass and fled.
Fortunately he didn't meet anyone else
on the way to the boys' bathroom.

There he locked himself in a stall
and fumbled his pants open.
If he couldn't wish away his erection,
at least he could get some use out of it.

Unbidden, the image of Stan's backside
under tailored khaki sprang to mind.
This was all Lawrence would ever have,
so he determined to take what he could get.

He took himself in hand,
but only lasted a few strokes
before spilling over his fingers.

It left his heart aching for more,
even as his unruly flesh subsided.

Lawrence washed his hands three times,
making sure that he smelled of nothing
except the cheap liquid soap.

Then he headed back to class,
alone with his solitary fantasy.

Notes:

Antimatter (Lawrence Cunningham) -- He is a high school student with a keen interest in science. He has a wiry build, pale skin, and pale blue eyes. He has just a hint of beard at the end of his chin. Born with straight black hair, it turned a radiant starlit silver after the accident. He dyes it black, which leaves his hair looking dull and matted until it burns through the dye after a week or two. It currently reaches his elbows. Lawrence is gay, and self-conscious about it. He has a love-hate relationship with Stalwart Stan. Antimatter keeps kidnapping Angelica Young to get Stalwart Stan's attention.
Origin: Determined to win the science fair, Lawrence attempted to create a new universe inside a cola bottle. It blew up. The accident left him with superpowers, but no science fair entry, and everyone laughed at him. He currently deals with social frustrations and professional setbacks by making trouble.
Uniform: All white, including the hat, with a black lab coat thrown over the top; and goggles to obscure his face.
Qualities: Expert (+4) Intelligence, Good (+2) Agility, Good (+2) Captain of Chess Club
Poor (-2) Such a Dork
Powers: Expert (+4) Manipulate Physics (Signature Stunts: Greater Than Equal Reaction, Irresistible Force, Remove Friction)
Motivation: Mind over matter.

Stalwart Stan (Stanley Wood) -- He is a high school student with a gallant personality, although some people think he's too good to be true. He has a sculptured body with light brown hair and hazel eyes. His naturally tan skin darkens further under the sun. Stan goes from one part-time job to another, because he wants to be industrious but he keeps losing his current job for hero-related reasons. Although devoted to his girlfriend Angelica Young, Stan is actually bisexual; he just doesn't know that yet. At school he rotates among several different sports. He has awkwardly mixed feelings about Antimatter.
Origin: His scouting troop got lost in the woods during terrible weather, everyone afraid they might die. Stan found a weird fetish that gave him superpowers, enabling him to call for help and save the day. He earned the Honor Medal for saving lives at considerable risk to himself.
Uniform: Tan shirt and trousers reminescent of a boy scout uniform but without insignia, plus a matching safari hat with a clingy mask obscuring the top half of his face.
Qualities: Expert (+4) Such a Boy Scout, Good (+2) Athletic, Good (+2) Handsome
Poor (-2) Girls Won't Leave Him Alone
Powers: Good (+2) Invulnerability, Average (0) Communicator, Average (0) Super-Strength
Limitation: All powers require the fetish to use; Stanley wears it around his neck.
Motivation: Be prepared to help those in need.

Angelica Young -- She is a lively high school student with a cheerful, athletic bearing. She has blue eyes and bleached blond hair in a short, sassy cut. Angelica comes from a good family and can afford fashionable clothes. She is popular at school. Although she loves her boyfriend Stanley Wood (Stalwart Stan), it frustrates her that other girls keep trying to get his attention. Antimatter keeps kidnapping her, and it creeps her out.
Qualities: Expert (+4) Cheerleader, Good (+2) Social Studies, Good (+2) Video Gamer
Poor (-2) Jealous

"If one is lucky, a solitary fantasy can totally transform one million realities."
-- Maya Angelou

Fantasies and masturbation are natural, healthy parts of sexual development and the exploration of emerging sexual orientation. There are tips for adults on supporting teenage boys through this process.

Male puberty customarily includes erections, sometimes at very awkward times, which can raise questions. There are tips for suppressing or ending an unwelcome erection. Understand that most boys cannot control this part of puberty. It is inexcusable to taunt or punish them for it. Quietly direct them to a private place and quash any rude remarks by others. Likewise, it is impolite in most cultures to advertise one's erection in public. Discreetly cover it and/or excuse yourself from company to go deal with it.

Men's worst fear is that women will laugh at them. This is a common fear and it can have serious consequences. Know how to overcome embarrassment. Angelica is acting like a bitch, Lawrence is not dealing with it at all well, and it's just going to cause trouble for both of them.

The best advice I ever heard about teenage boys and their unruly parts, and I can't for the life of me remember where I found it, is: 'they can't help it, so you just ignore it'. Unless they try to do something inappropriate with it, in which case the proper response is different.

not Lawrence, but the /teacher's/ response. Excusing him politely, so he wouldn't be in trouble for being out of class--

and especially, calling her up to the board for FOUR TIMES as many math problems.

If she's good at math, it's boring and tedious. If she's struggling with the concept, /everybody/ will see it.
(If she's truly awful at math, I think he would've chosen a different consequence, since he was so perceptive otherwise.)

LOVE THIS ONE!-- "Next kidnapping he was going to drag her through a mud puddle!" Haven't they broken up at this point, hmm?

You know, it works either way for me? Lawrence isn't above a petty-revenge-kidnapping to get EVEN with her, leaving her unharmed but a muddy wreck in a place where lots of people pass by... say, right outside the yearbook photographer's darkroom?
