Sharon Lee discusses the warning labels that apply to different writers.  Here is mine:

WARNING: May cause permanent damage to narrow minds.

That's humorous, but it's also true.  People have hurt themselves on my writing, and on my personality.  It's really better for everyone's safety and sanity if rigid, small-minded people stay far away from me and don't read my words.

A warning label?

I like the way you've articulated your own warning label, very much!

I can believe that. If I had tried to read some of your writing when I was younger and hadn't been exposed to as much, I think it probably would've upset me.

Most of my problem stems from the fact that my family just pretends anything they don't like doesn't exist. I was in the middle of high school before I accepted that I was queer, and that came /after/ I was suicidal and in denial. Just... It would've been complicated to think about all of it. Sometimes it's still hard to read some of what you write even though I absolutely love it because it puts me in a situation where I have to start seeing that some of how I grew up wasn't really okay.

I... read all of Love Is For Children because it's helping me mentally patch myself up properly. I'm... well, hiding from some of your other fics though. Sorry.

..yyyyep. I can see that. Younger Me would have been badly shaken by some of your writing.

It is humorous, though. *s*

Actually, I do consider myself more narrow-minded than I would like to be. The difference? I /know/ that my 'problem spots' exist, I have a good idea where they've come from, and I flat out refuse to let them shape ME any longer. So it's not a perfect solution; I have to approach triggery stuff carefully, but its' better than playing ostrich with this particular problem!

Oh, I just saw the other reading of this. You meant it as in "stretch before exercising", didn't you? I read it as syntactically like "shake well before using", with a transitive verb: in other words, something like "Stretch my words / meaning"!

You've focused my musing

I actually think you've helped me figure out my own auctorial warning: Contents Under Pressure, or maybe just a one-word warning: Plasmoid?

If you really want it to warn the narrow-minded, the first of those is much closer to being generally understandable.

LOL. It could work, but I'd probably have to "explain" plasmoid as "Mental Silly Putty". To me it's obvious!

I've long suspected as much. I might, too...although I think the warning on my *Internet* writing should probably be "Writer Is All About Money."

Well...

There is absolutely nothing wrong with writing for money.

I find money very inspiring too! That's part of the reason why I've done so much more with poetry, and much less with Pagan nonfiction, over time. Within my tremendous breadth of expertise, I tend to go where the money is.
