Auctorial Warning Labels

Sharon Lee discusses the warning labels that apply to different writers. Here is mine:
WARNING: May cause permanent damage to narrow minds.
That's humorous, but it's also true. People have hurt themselves on my writing, and on my personality. It's really better for everyone's safety and sanity if rigid, small-minded people stay far away from me and don't read my words.

A warning label?

Date: 2014-07-28 10:41 pm (UTC)Yes...
Date: 2014-07-28 10:50 pm (UTC)Also when I was younger, I didn't know how much damage this stuff could do. I have learned to put warnings on things and to be cautious about handing certain stuff to certain people.

Date: 2014-07-29 02:31 am (UTC)My sympathies. I know people like that. It is profoundly disturbing to realize that someone is not actually interacting with you, but has instead constructed a sort of doll inside their head with all the features they wish you had, and they are entertaining themselves with it rather than you, while you are right there.
>> I was in the middle of high school before I accepted that I was queer, and that came /after/ I was suicidal and in denial. Just... It would've been complicated to think about all of it. <<
Wow, that sucks.
>> Sometimes it's still hard to read some of what you write even though I absolutely love it because it puts me in a situation where I have to start seeing that some of how I grew up wasn't really okay. <<
It really wasn't okay. I hope the tags, warnings, descriptions, etc. suffice to help you tell what you want to read or skip.

Date: 2014-07-29 03:51 am (UTC)I'm glad I could help. If you like feelgood things, Hart's Farm is mostly fluff too.
>> I'm... well, hiding from some of your other fics though. Sorry. <<
That's okay. I write lots of different things, and I try to make it easy for people to tell which they'd enjoy reading. I have some fans who read everything I write, but many people have a favorite series or several. Some series are really popular, some in the middle, other have only a few fans.

Thank you!
Date: 2014-07-28 10:52 pm (UTC)Maybe it should have labels like yoga equipment and large sex toys do: "Stretch carefully before using." :D

Date: 2014-07-30 12:28 am (UTC)If you really want it to warn the narrow-minded, the first of those is much closer to being generally understandable.

Date: 2014-07-29 10:33 pm (UTC)I find money very inspiring too! That's part of the reason why I've done so much more with poetry, and much less with Pagan nonfiction, over time. Within my tremendous breadth of expertise, I tend to go where the money is.
