>> The kids are becoming more identifiable in the series, more complex. <<
Thank you!
>> I think I /love/ the slow, scuffing walk toward TeJay, where Chris is making it VERY clear that he's not PUSHING Eric forward, just making sure he's nearby. It's so very, very believable. <<
Chris has a very laissez-faire approach to childraising, and only intervenes if things get really out of hand. He lacks the social finesse that some of my other characters have. So where somebody else might give Eric a firm hand on the back, Chris won't.
Another aspect is that Eric is the motivator in this series. He seriously fucked up and now he wants to fix it. So it's important that he makes the major decisions about that, rather than anyone else prodding him along. But it's still hard to do and it feels awful, so Eric shows some reluctance in places.
>> Sadly, so is the edge of desperation in /both/ teens' reactions, and I'm left with hints that they're both getting help and support-- Pat reaching out to TeJay is /brilliantly/ understated. <<
Yay! Yes, they are both getting support, and that is helping. Pat knows that TeJay is hypersensitized right now, hence the careful approach. TeJay needs a decent father figure as badly as Eric does, though.
