Yes they do. There is some support, but not enough, and that's typical of what happens after this kind of accident. People focus on the crisis elements, and it's easy for things to get overlooked -- like the small child desperately trying to hold himself together.

The whole point of this story is to show the roots of the Phil we know later. So you'll see a lot of things that connect to canon and to other stories in this series. Flip doesn't have the coping skills that Phil develops later, so his bad habits show more. But when Phil is losing his shit they still come through.
