(Yes, I /did/ hold off reading this until I knew I'd need an emotional lift.) Sorry for the lack of superlatives in the feedback, but I think it's simplest to say: there's a sense of RIGHTNESS in the story, even when discussing difficult elements, that "this will turn out better than it might have been, or was in canon".
I think everyone needs a little reassurance that people in the world /want/ to make it better, and are trying hard to do so.
