I would like to hope that those companies would use this opportunity to revise their sales policies for Black Friday, but I am not optimistic in that regard. So who is more at fault... the stores, for running the sales and "first-come-first-served" perks, and encouraging people to "beat everyone else" to the sale... or the customers, who can't control their own behavior and get into fights over stupid bargains? NOTHING those stores can offer is worth someone dying so you can get to it first. The greed of some Black Friday shoppers is really astonishing and repulsive.

A local furniture chain used to (as in, 20 years ago) run a holiday sale TV ad where the sales clerks are pushing the new guy to open the door for the customers (banging on the windows). There's several cuts to clerks who "did it last year" and are still in casts -- including one in a full-body cast. I used to think it was hilarious, but it isn't funny anymore, because it's real.

I have never liked shopping on the day after Thanksgiving, and trends over the past couple years have fueled my desire to stay home and put up the Christmas decor instead.
