What I found most disturbing about that is that this is about the same poverty level from 12 years ago when we started Homer's immigration process. Now, in the decade we've been here I've seen many basic grocery items double in price, but if the poverty level is not shifting, then the knock on effect is that the poor just keep getting poorer, and swept even farther behind everyone else. It would also imply that the threshold for the standard of living for people who want to enter the country is placing them into a society where they can barely support themselves. That's never a good sign...
