There are three open epics at present.

"Within the Souls of Men" belongs to Shiv. Smoking Breath endeavors to mediate between Shiv and Ben.

"Before You Can Love Me" belongs to Iron Horses. Warshirt is so very confused about how the totem girls treat him.

"That Light Bulb in Your House with a Short in It" belongs to Shiv, Iron Horses, and Foster Fiasco. The Iron Horses ask for Shiv's help in rescuing a tribal child from an inappropriate foster home.


The weather has been hot here. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a small flock of house finches, a small flock of sparrows, a pair of cardinals, and a fox squirrel. Currently blooming: moss rose, snapdragons, marigolds, verbena, petunias, portulaca, torenia, white alyssum, blue lobelia, pansies, violas, yarrow, morning glory, impatiens, bachelor's button, cosmos, purple echinacea, yellow coneflower, cypress vine, cup plant, zinnias, gladioli, Queen Anne's lace, garlic chives, sunflowers, partridge pea, sedum, sunchokes, and thistle.  Goldenrod has buds almost ready to open.

Birdfeeding

Today is sunny and hot.

I fed the birds.  I've seen a fox squirrel.

I put out water for the birds and watered a few plants.

I watered the septic garden and the patio plants.

I watered the telephone pole garden, wildflower garden, and notch in the prairie garden. 

The Loss of Counterculture

Here's a post about the loss of counterculture.

I find this to be prevailingly true. I have no idea where all the freaks have gone, but I really miss them. Used to be, I could go into fannish or Pagan places and find people I resonated with. But now, it's just mundanes with elf ears or pentacles. The trappings are different, but the culture is the same -- the behaviors, the expectations, the backbiting, the shit I hate most about the mainstream has take over places that used to be very different. So there's no longer a reason for me to seek out those places; they don't give me anything I couldn't get everywhere else. That's sad and frustrating.
