Birdfeeding

Today is sunny and warm.

I haven't fed the birds yet, but I have seen three white-crowned sparrows, several other sparrows, a pair of house finches, and a mourning dove.  I suspect that I may have at least a small flock of white-crowned sparrows, so I'm hoping that company encourages them to stick around.  :D

EDIT 5/9/23 -- I fed the birds.  I saw a pair of goldfinches on the hopper feeder!  \o/

EDIT 5/9/23 -- I weeded the barrel garden, so that one is now ready for planting.

EDIT 5/9/23 -- I started weeding the goddess garden.

EDIT 5/9/23 -- We made another major shopping run for plants.  I got almost everything on my list.  \o/

EDIT 5/9/23 -- I potted up an orange viola, a yellow viola, and two white alyssum.

I planted 4 orange and 4 yellow giant marigolds in the garden by the telephone pole.

I moved the wandering dew, wandering dyke, and a new golden pothos into new pots.  I decided to put the golden pothos in the brass planter and the wandering dyke in the teal macramé hanger.

As it is now dark, I am done for the night.

Today we made another major shopping run for plants, this time with a list.

We had planned to stop at County Market and DeBuhr's, then Home Depot, but that County Market is gone.  >_<  So it was just the two.  I found a lot of herbs and flowers at DeBuhr's, but not the pots.  They did have what seems like an excellent brand of composted manure with peat, though, which feels much lighter than the humus and manure.  So we got 3 bags of that as well.

Then we went back to Home Depot for the big concrete slab (which weighs 88 pounds).  They had most of the pots I needed.  They also had restocked flowers, so I found most of what I was missing.  \o/

The only things I couldn't find were fancy thyme varieties and a cactus pot.  All the most important stuff is covered, so I'm not concerned about a few missing bits.

This poem came out of the May 2, 2023 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from [personal profile] chanter1944. It also fills the "Robotic Pet" square in my 5-1-23 card for the Pets and Animals Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by [personal profile] ng_moonmoth. It belongs to An Army of One series.
