Today is mostly cloudy and cool, with occasional sunbeams.

I fed the birds. There's no good place left to hang the upside-down suet cage, so I just brought it in for the season.

I've seen a flock of sparrows, two mourning doves, a brown thrasher, a male house finch, and a fox squirrel.

I started working on the orchard. I filled a trolley with small sticks and hauled several large branches to the ritual meadow, but there is much work left to be done.

EDIT 4/23/23 -- We cleared a big pile of sticks from the strip between the house and the south lot. My partner Doug is out mowing now.

EDIT 4/23/23 -- We walked around the mowed area, including part of the orchard and a path all the way through the forest yard between the house and the street.

I sprayed weeds along the street and in the prairie garden.

EDIT 4/23/23 -- I trimmed brush and cut around the lily-of-the-valley growing along the north side of the house.

I saw a male cardinal in the fly-through feeder and a blue jay in the forest garden.

EDIT 4/23/23 -- I hauled several large branches, and moved two piles of firewood, from the north side of the house to the ritual meadow.

As it is now dark, I am done for the night.
