Feathering the Nest
Aug. 24th, 2020 02:18 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
If I reach a goal of $150 in tips, I will marathon through and finish “Consequences Cha-Cha,” which I expect to need a total of twelve parts. That’s an additional six parts, or three thousand words, written in a massive waterfall of words, which actually clears the posting schedule for the stories already written which take place after this massively surprising meeting.

The half-price sale in Polychrome Heroics went well last week. Keep an eye on the sale page, as I still have several pool poems to post.
Poetry in Microfunding:
There are two open epics at present.
"The Best Understanding of Their Differences" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Calliope. Vagary and Calliope work through moments of nonsexual intimacies.
"Protect the Forests" belongs to Polychrome Heroics: Iron Horses. The Iron Horses talk about horse communication with Kenzie.
The weather has been mild here, though hotter the last couple days. Seen at the birdfeeders this week: a flock of mourning doves, a flock of sparrows, a flock of house finches, several cardinals, a pair of goldfinches, and a squirrel. Currently blooming: comfrey, pinks, violas, alyssum, petunia, Queen Anne's lace, yellow coneflowers, purple coneflowers, cup plant, wild senna, morning glory, hosta, purple penstemon, black-eyed Susan.

Poem: "A Hint of the Resurrection"
Aug. 24th, 2020 09:35 pmThis poem is spillover from the July 21, 2020 bonus fishbowl. It was inspired by an anoymous prompt. It also fills the "Separation & Reunion" square in my 2-1-19 "Romantic" card for the Valentines Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by a pool with
fuzzyred,
technoshaman, and
mama_kestrel. It belongs to the Gentle Soul thread of the Polychrome Heroics series.
WARNING: This poem contains heartbreaking material. HANKIE WARNING! Highlight to read the detailed warnings, some of which are spoilers and possibly also triggers. It includes crying men, family upheavals, genocide, 2 people left of a large family, and thus the end of the search, reference to Holocaust survivors as a possible resource for coping with family loss, insecurity, awkward family introductions, clinginess, reference to past deaths, arguing over new relationship dynamics, traumatic loss, heartache, and other challenges. However, the overall storyline brings people closer together. Please consider your tastes and headspace before deciding whether this is something you want to read. Because it features a major plot point, though, skipping it would leave a big gap.

Upselling Healthy Ideas
Aug. 24th, 2020 11:38 pmI've seen a lot of squabbling over fast-food restaurants, and efforts to force people to eat healthier things. I don't approve of force.
However, it occurred to me that there's another tactic which is currently used for evil that could be used for good: upselling. Make the fast-food restaurants stop upselling unhealthy things like fries and soda. You can still buy them, but you have to ask. Instead, restaurants could increase their profits by upselling healthy things. "You want fresh fruit with that?" Or carrot sticks, celery sticks, anything else that can be made into finger-food eaten the same way as fries. Offer water, tea, lemonade, etc. instead of soda.
Small changes, but easy to sustain, and thus more likely to work.
