This poem is spillover from the February 6, 2018 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by prompts from
chanter_greenie and
librarygeek. It also fills the "mind control" square in
my 1-3-18 card for the
trope_bingo fest, and the "taking it slow" square in
my 1-31-18 Romantic card for the Valentines Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by Anthony & Shirley Barrette. It belongs to the
Calliope thread of the
Polychrome Heroics series.
WARNING: This poem contains topics that some readers may find disturbing. Highlight to read the warnings, some of which are spoilers and perhaps triggers.
It contains canon-atypical violence, Rabid City, because Rabid City is always a warning, gang warfare, a gunfight, hostile use of superpowers, messy medical details, mass casualty incident and triage, Calliope struck down by hostile mindwipe and declared a lost cause, Vagary freaking out over that and insisting she's not gone, Vagary fixing much of the damage with a healer's assistance, multiple fatalities, moral injury, typical awkwardness between Calliope and Vagary, and other mayhem. If these are touchy topics for you, please consider your tastes and headspace before deciding whether this is something you want to read. However, it's a major plot point in this thread, so skipping it would leave a big gap.
