ysabetwordsmith: (Schrodinger's Heroes)
This story fills a square on my card for the [community profile] hc_bingo fest. This fest encourages the creation of boundary-pushing material that explores what happens when things go horribly wrong and people actually care about each other. I'm hoping to attract some new readers for my writing.

The following story belongs to Schrodinger's Heroes, featuring an apocryphal television show supported by an imaginary fandom. It's science fiction about quantum physics and saving the world from alternate dimensions. It features a very mixed cast in terms of ethnicity and sexual orientation. This project developed with input from multiple people, and it's open for everyone to play in. You can read more about the background, the characters, and a bunch of assorted content on the menu page.

Begin with Part 1, Part 2, Part 3. This is a crossover with BBC Sherlock. You can read how these characters found each other in "THE Woman," and the beginning of the morning after in "Texas Sunrise" and "Seeing Things."

Fandoms: BBC Sherlock / Original: Schrodinger's Heroes
H/C: Hostages
Medium: Fiction
Summary/Preview: Sherlock is hungover when the incursion alarm sound and hostile aliens burst into the Teferact compound. He struggles to get his brain working enough to figure out what's going on. He's almost fast enough.
Content Notes: Consequences of overindulgence in alcohol. Alien invasion. Problem-solving and teamwork. Combat violence. Safe ending.

This poem was inspired by comments from [livejournal.com profile] paka about alienation and [livejournal.com profile] rhodielady_47 about leather wings., along with the song "Take These Wings" by [livejournal.com profile] catsittingstill.  It is posted here as a birthday gift for [livejournal.com profile] catsittingstill.  This poem belongs to the Fledgling Grace series, which you can explore further via the Serial Poetry page.  It will make more sense if you have previously read "Moulting," "The Fledging," and "Fledermäuse."

The next Poetry Fishbowl will be tomorrow, Dec. 4, with a theme of "games and toys." Please drop by to give me prompts and watch for poems to appear.

I'm hosting Winterfaire 2012 for vendors and shoppers interested in supporting small business. The current perk poem for participation is "Hrafn's Nest" (Hart's Farm).  It's at 10 of 19 verses, just past the halfway point.

If you are holiday shopping for me, I have a wishlist.

The weather has been variable.  Today was warmer, windy, and wet.  I've seen more cardinals, recently.  They show up more once they realize the birdfeeders are full.

December has the advent story, set in Fae World, based on poll results. [personal profile] kajones_writing also plans to write more for the other collections that people voted for, since those seem to be popular ones. She still has her Winterfaire support active. An update from Nov. 27 discusses her home situation, NaNoWriMo, and plans for 2013. The November Round-up covers family and holidays, prompts sessions, posts from November, and plans for December. The December half-price sale is now open: everything you can purchase on her site is half off.

December is double-credits month. If you're not already collecting credits, now is a great time to start. You earn credits by doing things like commenting or linking to stories, and you can spend them on more fiction, character adoptions, etc.

Fiction:  Advent Story 2012: The Fae World: Willow: On Earth (Part 1),  Advent Story 2012: The Fae World: Willow: On Earth (part 2),  Advent Story 2012: The Fae World: Willow: On Earth (part 3).  This story deals with Willow and her people arriving on Earth and trying to pick up the pieces of their lives after losing their homeworld.

This crossed my desk today.  I'm delighted to see that a poem from microcosms  was among the winners.

Joshua Gage and I would like to announce the winners of the 2012 "Dwarf Stars" award for the best short science fiction poem published in 2012, voted on by the members of the Science Fiction Poetry Association.

The winners are:
First Place: "Blue Rose Buddha," by Marge Simon, first published in The Mad Hattery (Elektrik Milk Bath Press, 2011)
Second Place: "Closure," by Greer Woodward, first published in Illumen, Autumn 2011
Third Place: "Snowflake galaxies," by G.O. Clark, first published in microcosms, October 9, 2011

We would like congratulate all of the nominees, as well as the editors and publishers of the many magazines, anthologies, and websites who worked hard to bring us a year of excellent speculative poetry.
