Here is an interesting discussion about alien natures -- their traits across a species or individuals.

I agree with that post.

The Ah'Koi Bahnis, for one, tend towards pacifism. But they live on a planet where they have to know how to, and be willing to, defend their lives. So there's that. Also, there have been stories wherein individual AKB have been shown to be, in some cases, not all that peaceful. The second novel, in fact, has a large part of the population of the continent of Vaish being hostile towards offworlders, full of racism for those not of their world. And I'm pretty sure that with a certain secret weapon, if any alien species destroyed their homeworld (or any similar significant population of their people), that they would go mad with rage and cause the offending species to go extinct within a year's time; or at least severely endangered.

Also, the Duenicallo aren't as restricted by propriety as AKB. Their large size and great strength means they have to be a bit more controlling of their emotions around other species, because a full-grown Duenicallo could kill an adult human or AKB without trying very hard; but they're more prone to minor violence within their own species. (Duenicallo are HUGE, after all. Full sized adults are at least as big as polar bears. And pygmy Duenicallo are still big enough for a full grown human to ride. A full grown adult Duenicallo could take a human's head off without breaking a sweat.)

Oh, and I almost forgot something. The third Traipahni species, the Shaokennah (who look like featherless utahraptors but without the giant toe claw; also, their snouts are shorter and stouter.), tend towards tribalism and tend to prefer living in trees in the wilderness. Their general technology level is bronze age, some as high as iron age, and yet they tend to dislike using fire. But there are individuals that choose to live and work in the AKB/Duenicallo society and beyond. They're smart enough to have become highly technological themselves, but a combination of historical events and attitudes (including slavery at the hands of the other two species pre-Reformation), made them decide to live more primitively.
