I live in central Illinois, but I've visited Texas on several occasions. The wildlife is sufficiently aggressive that it's customary to carry a stick whenever stepping off pavement, so as to shoo away rattlesnakes and whatever else might otherwise decide to take a chunk out of you. So that little bit of local color will get written into Schrodinger's Heroes.
