Today we went up to Arthur for the Third Saturday Bazaar at the Otto Center.

My partner Doug dropped off a bag of Peeps that he has been collecting, so they can be freeze-dried. :D

We split a bowl of chicken noodles and a soda from the food window. I also grabbed a dozen eggs from their front table of miscellaneous offerings. We chatted casually with other folks at the table. One thing I love about Amish territory is that people still talk to each other.

I picked out a houseplant with purple fur, and a stick of balm for bug bites from Aunt Dee's Soaps and Lotions.

Sadly, the maple booth was not there today, so we couldn't restock our maple root beer supply. :(

Next we went to Shady Crest. I spotted a saltwater taffy display. Doug picked up some of that. I found a raspberry roll from the bakery, which turned out to be delicious. We doubled back to the Otto Center to drop off the saltwater taffy to be freeze-dried.

We stopped at the Family Health Store for one thing and found a couple others. The best was The Daily Crave Aged White Cheddar Lentil Chips. These had a really nice crispy texture, a scoop shape that would be great for dips, and a mild cheddar flavor with a real savory note from the lentils although they don't actually taste like lentils. Definitely one of the best alternative chips we have ever round, right up there with Snappeas, So there's a reason to swing by that store more often.

On the way home, we visited the Backyard Garden greenhouse in Chesterville. I filled a flat of 18 pots (3" size) including portulaca, torenia, black oxalis, and a few new things. I also got a couple of 4" petunias, one solid black trumpet, one black with white edge pom-pom. I'd like to go back for more warm-weather things later. Alas, they did not have the Toscano pink-flowered strawberry plants this year. :( It's another place people talk -- one lady drifted past and just observed, "This is fun, isn't it?" Yes, yes it is.

Finally, we checked out the bake sale whose signs we've been seeing for ages but never caught before. We bought a loaf of whole wheat bread, which we're using to make Bulgarian breakfast bread; and a bag of snickerdoodles, which are quite tasty with a strong cinnamon flavor. :D They had einkorn wheat flour, which was tempting; I may get some when I'm in a baking mood some day. Also, I kept hearing something peeping. I said, "Am I hearing chicks?" The shopkeeper said, "Yes, would you like to see them?" So we went back and looked at the adorable striped chicks.

It has been a fun and productive day.
