Friday Five
Mar. 20th, 2026 05:36 pmThese questions come from
thefridayfive.
1. What was the reason you began a Dreamwidth or LiveJournal account (or both)?
I started my LiveJournal the year my first book came out, so I would have a practical use for it rather than just fooling around. I started Dreamwidth to have a backup for LiveJournal -- clearly a prudent plan.
2. How many DW or LJ communities do you subscribe to?
Dozens, more than I could count quickly.
3. Do you have a favorite community or one you check out often to see what's new?
Many. Let's see, some I visit often include
awesomeers,
birdfeeding,
book_love,
books,
common_nature,
creative_cooks,
followfriday,
gardening,
get_knitted,
goals_on_dw,
recipecommunity,
thefreaksclub, and
tv_talk.
See also my list of Most Useful Communities.
4. How did you pick your user name?
I tried several different things that bounced, so I started tacking bits together until one worked.
5. If you could change your user name, would you?
No. I like it, and it's pretty well known.
The following bonus questions are brought to you by the fact that I (
anais_pf) have been unable to access any page of LiveJournal for more than a week (and therefore cannot post to The Friday Five there):
6. If you have a LiveJournal, are you currently able to access it?
Yes. However, my LJ is old, well-trafficked, with a lot of prior posts. Russia has been doing various erratic things in attempt to push out users, but there are exceptions for some established accounts. I have heard of many people unable to access their blog, or in some cases, my blog -- and it's not stable, it changes sometimes.
7. Do you have any information about why one would be unable to access LiveJournal?
Owner and government malice, in essence. One angle attempted to make people buy paid accounts, but Russia stopped accepting money from outside the country several years ago; I had a paid account but we couldn't renew it anymore. A different angle shut off access to accounts that were made after a certain date or had fewer than a certain number of posts. Lately they've been trying to convince people to switch to a Russian language format. And so on.
There are various websites that keep live "is it down" tracking. So any time you can't reach LJ, check those.
