Here are the location notes for "The Bones of Chihuly."

Hanson Hall was introduced in Demifiction: "Community Kitchen Bread Commercial" and elaborated in the location notes for "A Haven That Purifies Emotion" with Administrative Office and Shiv's studio among other places.

The work area of the ceramic studio on the third floor includes a countertop with sinks, cabinets and shelves for storing materials and projects, wheels and seats for throwing pots, tables and chairs for other work. A pegboard and cups along one wall store tools for shaping clay. Another room has the bulk storage for clays, glazes, and other supplies.

The Glass Studio on the third floor features storage for glass, tools, space to hang finished projects, and large worktables with chairs. It holds classes on stained glass but also mosaics and other related crafts.

The Metal Studio offers a variety of workbenches, storage cabinets, tools, and supplies for jewelrymaking and other small metalwork crafts.

Some benches may be reserved by the hour during studio time, first come first served. These are free to members but have a price for guests. They are also used for classes during class time. These have a butcher block top and open front with shelves, plus a stool.

Dedicated benches may be rented month-to-month or long-term. These have a butcher block top with shelves and locking drawers, plus a stool. Rental includes access to a shared soldering station nearby.

Several semiprivate studios may be rented month-to-month or long-term. Each 7 x 7 square foot cubicle is surrounded by 4 foot high walls with an open doorway. A personal butcher block top bench has locking drawers for storage, plus choice of stool or rolling chair for a seat. The more expensive studios have a personal fume extractor for safe soldering; the cheaper ones include use of a shared soldering area.

Across the hall from the studios is a row of multipurpose workrooms and classrooms.

This multipurpose workroom has a concrete floor, storage cabinets and workbenches along the walls, pegboards, and a utility sink. Tables, chairs, desks, or other furnishings can be set up as needed. This space suits a wide variety of messy arts and crafts.

The Hotshop

The Hotshop is a separate, smaller building behind Hanson Hall. It houses the high-temperature equipment such as ceramic kilns, glass kilns, and metal welders plus a multipurpose classroom. Access requires a certification keycard. Once Hanson Hall members pass the Hotshop safety test, their certification card includes a magnetic key strip that will unlock the outer door. When they pass the test for a specific type of equipment, they gain access to unlock its room. Access to multiple areas may be stored on one card or separate cards.

This room holds five ceramic kilns of various styles with electric power and computer controls.

The Lampwork Studio holds equipment for torch glass techniques along with small kilns for fusing glass. It can also be used for soldering and other small-scale metalwork that uses hot tools. This wall includes glass kilns and storage for glass rods, frit, and other materials.

The Metalwork Studio provides equipment for cutting and welding various metals. This area can handle much larger and hotter projects than the Metal Studio inside Hanson Hall itself.

The Hotshop includes a classroom with a whiteboard, projection system, teacher's desk with computer, clock, tables and chairs. This makes it easy to combine a lecture and workshop without needing to change buildings.
