Poem: "Eyes Wide, Mind Open"
Dec. 31st, 2025 12:49 amThis poem came out of the January 7, 2025 Poetry Fishbowl. It was inspired by a prompt from
dialecticdreamer. It also fills the "Daughter of Earth" square in my 1-1-25 card for the Public Domain Day Bingo fest. This poem has been sponsored by a pool with
fuzzyred. It belongs to the series Frankenstein's Family.
"Eyes Wide, Mind Open"
Crina draws herself from
the world around her,
a daughter of earth,
of mountain, of water,
of sky, of science.
She is as curious
as the woodpile cats.
In the castle, she hides
in the libraries where
she can read for hours
no matter the weather.
In the wilderness, she
watches the werewolves,
and down in the village,
she visits the vampires.
She listens to other humans
sharing stories and news.
Everyone has something
to teach her, and she
can't wait to learn it.
The animals and
the plants and even
the weather show
her their true natures.
Crina observes everything,
eyes wide, mind open,
like a blank book waiting
for the world to write in it.
