ysabetwordsmithToday we went up to the All Over Arthur Garage Sales.
On the way up, we got shrimp tacos at Vita's.
We stopped at the Visitor Center to pick up an event map that marked all the garage sales. The print is so small we could barely read it -- they should've printed the map on one side and listing of sales on the other -- but it did tell us which part of town had the highest density of sales, so that's where we went.
I can't remember how many we stopped at or everything we got. We haven't even brought it all in from the car yet. Among my finds were a chenille sweater, a raincoat with a hood, a bubble wand with multiple holes, and a bag of melted marbles that I'll probably use to make a bee waterer. My partner Doug had a great day finding videos, along with a magnetic checkers set. Mutual finds included a set of modular plastic shelves, a stack of Tupperware, and a couple of cookbooks.
I got to talking with one lady who tipped me to this recipe for mega-bubble solution. It uses guar gum instead of glycerin, and I know just enough chemistry to figure out that this should be quite robust. She even showed me a video of blowing giant bubbles with the wand-and-rope type of bubble maker. She was also hemming a skirt using tiny clips instead of pins. Now I need to watch for a big package of tiny clips because that looks so convenient. \o/ And here's her Etsy shop, which was tacked onto the end of the message she sent me with the link to the bubble recipe.
On the way out, we stopped at Graber Building Supply, which had a greenhouse up, looking for 'Gypsy' pepper plants. No luck finding those, alas, but I did find some burpless cucumber plants and several new flowers.
We picked up a mint Oreo blizzard from Dairy Queen, which was quite good.
We finished reading Cook What You Have.
We did the grocery shopping.
For supper we picked up pizza from Little Caesar's. The pretzel crust pizza tastes good, but is extremely salty, so I wouldn't eat it outside of warm weather.
It has been a fun and productive day. :D Also nice: despite the forecast, we didn't get rained on.
