Some of the professors do know that Shiv is a supervillain. They do not care, they are avidly courting him anyway. Part is wanting to get a foster survivor into a better situation, part is wanting to find a supervillain something better to do than break the law, and part is because they love his work. It confuses the hell out of Shiv.
