This poem was an extra written while awaiting prompts for the October 15, 2024 Bonus Fishbowl. It fills the "Night" square of my 10-1-24 card for the Fall Fest Bingo. It has been sponsored by [personal profile] janetmiles. This poem belongs to the series A Poesy of Obscure Sorrows and follows "Ringlorn."

"Harmonoia"
an itchy sense of dread when life
feels just a hint too peaceful --
when everyone seems to get along
suspiciously well, with an eerie stillness
that makes you want to brace for
the inevitable collapse,
or burn it down yourself

You know in your bones
when trouble is coming --

like the calm before the storm,
or when all the water gets sucked
out to sea before a tidal wave,

like when the night is too quiet
and your experience tells you
that the silence of the crickets
means something is out there.

Sometimes all you can do
is to break it yourself,

like putting a scratch on
an inconspicuous place of
a new car so it won't wreck.

Order and chaos must always
exist in dynamic balance, like
the spot of yin in yang and
the spot of yang in yin,
forever twirling together
yet never actually blending.

Without this, the universe
would stagnate and die,
or fly apart into pieces.

Harmonoia is the sense
that tells you when it's
time to cause a little chaos.
