Hard Things

Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.
What are some of the hard things you've done recently? What are some hard things you haven't gotten to yet, but need to do? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your hard things a little easier?

Date: 2024-08-28 08:01 pm (UTC)I managed to break one of my kitchen chairs. I was decorating a cake, sitting at the table using a turntable to get the icing on evenly. I spilled some icing on the floor, and I leaned over sideways to wipe it up. And the chair fell over sideways, and broke. I just got a bruise on my elbow. The chairs are made out of metal rods in a sort of woven mesh, and the seat part broke off the base legs (it was only held with two screws - when we bought them I assembled them. So we went shopping for a suitable replacement. When it arrived, I put it together. But it needed a seat pad, so we found one online.
I had to sew bits of strap to the cushion to Velcro it to the chair. But it's a whole lot more comfortable to sit in than the old chair was. I needed to find a longer strap to attach the back pad, and all I had was some wide elastic like you use for the waistband of a pair of pants. And I had to use a connector from a backpack to make it removable. A fairly decent kluge, because I couldn't go to JoANn yesterday (my husband had to work).
