Folks have mentioned an interest in questions and conversations that make them think. So I've decided to offer more of those. The current batch features landrace gardening.
Open Pollinated Land-race Peas
I grow my own variety of genetically diverse open pollinated land-race shelling peas on my farm.
Benefits
Commercial varieties of garden peas are bred to mature on the same day so that they can be harvested by machine. My peas are hand picked and mature over a few weeks so I don't get a huge overabundance on one day and nothing the next.

If you wish to create landraces, then peas are among the most fun vegetables to breed. They come in multiple colors such as green, yellow, and purple. They bloom in even more colors. They can grow in bush or vine habits. Popular types include garden peas, sugar-snap peas, snow peas, and dry peas. Their genes are very diverse, and in fact peas were used to demonstrate early genetic principles. So they can adapt to just about anything.
Peas don't seem to suffer from cytoplasmic male sterility. You can safely use peas for breeding even if they are hybrids -- although you'll get better diversity from non-hybrid peas.
Here are some options. Look how many landraces there are! :D

(Cream, lavender, black, and red-violet peas; small peas; good as shelling peas or dry peas.)
