Hard Things

Life is full of things which are hard or tedious or otherwise unpleasant that need doing anyhow. They help make the world go 'round, they improve skills, and they boost your sense of self-respect. But doing them still kinda sucks. It's all the more difficult to do those things when nobody appreciates it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our accomplishments and pat each other on the back.

What are some of the hard things you've done recently? What are some hard things you haven't gotten to yet, but need to do? Is there anything your online friends could do to make your hard things a little easier?

hard thing: Still trying to figure out where the leak in my water feature is. Which I know is a very first world problem... but it's damn annoying! I'm loosing water from it, and no indication of where and I am sick of carrying buckets of water out each day to fill the damn thing up.

OTOH, the local wildlife, the neighbors and the cats all love it. For different reasons of course.

I remember something about using bubbles (soap or submerging in water) to find air leaks in bike/car tires.

Not sure if it would work with your water feature, but maybe a variant? Dust the outside with chalk dust or flour or something and see if it washes off anywhere?

I know that one, I tested the joints in the pipework by wrapping them in paper towels. It's not those.

It's seeping out somewhere but I just don't know where...and it only seems to do it when the pump is running so it has to be between the static water level and the running water level. I think...

If it's only when the pump is running...is it possible to look at the pump and nearby pipes while the gizmo is on? Maybe with a flashlight and small mirror to see any back parts?

I'm awake much earlier than planned, and just now at the caffeine. )Been up about an hour after only like four or five hours of half-way broken sleep)

And I have:
-clothes to put away
-laundry to do (ETA: laundry in drier)
-vacuuming to do
-cat boxes to change
-breakfast to eat (Made scrambled eggs)...
-a bed to make (Done)

Probably won't do that in that order, but right no my brain is not really online and my depression is still eating at me.

I'm also out of a job right now for various en sundry reasons, some of which were beyond my control, some of which were, and I'm just *nnow* starting to freak out slightly because my last check from work comes on Friday, and then I'll have to start dipping into my savings. Which I'd...rather not do. >.>

I'm recovering from a bad bout of flu over the weekend. I and my partner were sick on my birthday, so we didn't get to do anything. I also called out yesterday since my throat was shot due to coughing etc. Hoping to get through work today with medication.

Ug, flu sucks. In any form. That shit had the SPC-body down for 2 days out in Ohio and it fucking sucked all kinds of ass.

I hope you feel better soon.

Let my child go to a protest without trying to talk her out of it, knowing she was in danger both from the police and any fascist lunatics that show up with guns.

Good on you, but I'd still be worried sick. o.x
I hope said child is (will be?) ok, depending whether or not the protest is progressing or is over.

It was on July 4th, so I'm very relieved that nothing happened to her. It could have been extremely bad, as we saw elsewhere.

My teenager told me about joining a protest after he got home, but it was more than ten years ago, and the police were /very/ careful to keep people out of rock-throwing and spitting distances between the two very contentious sides. It never crossed my mind that he could be in danger directly from /either/ side when he joined the crowd.

It's been a long, long ten years, hasn't it?

Now, I think you deserve a parenting MEDAL for getting through that! I think that you're raising an amazing kid!

It's very different now - I think that's part of the grand plan, to make people afraid to protest.

I wholheartedly agree.

I also wish that more people would file civil suits against the police whenever they step out of line. Catch a cop running a red light when NOT on a call, civil suit for public endangerment, ESPECIALLY if it's near where kids congregate. Yes, I mean all the way down to the pettiest, TINIEST infractions. The police are supposed to protect the citizens, NOT be the leading cause of death and injury after cancer and heart disease. (Yes, I am exaggerating. Slightly.)

I have also never been prouder of my sons than when they stepped in to protests, for different causes.

Short term, I'm doing caretakey-stuff today and tommorrow. Should be fairly uncomplicated...

Longer term, I have to do something I'm dreading, and make both short-term planning and long-term life decisions related to that.

Doesn't help that I feel I can't actually plan, or commit to stuff. Self esteem, perfectionism...
:(

And somebody I know is finally acting concerned about my wellbeing, years too late for me to respond to them constructively. (Sigh.) And even if I try to explain the problems, they'll probably just...decide wrong for me, again. (I do find some dark amusement in the fact that they are getting Exactly What You Asked For and Gone Horribly Right.)

Hard things

The list of hard things in my life is too long to properly articulate at the moment, but here's one that's driving me nuts: I've been knitting a Monmouth cap and have had to rip back more than an inch (at least seven rows) TWICE, trying to fix a problem. The first time, I was so upset that it put me in tears. That's my "I'm at negative spoons" level of cope, because I don't ever want to cry if there are people around.

The second time, I was so frustrated that I am seriously considering ripping out the whole project and starting over from scratch. Which is probably wholly an overreaction, but I am stuck at the halfway point of the project and was hoping that it would keep my hands busy and my brain quiet today and tomorrow.

Also illustrative of the out-of-spoons state: I am trying to empty the plastic containers of leftovers. I got the fridge sorted, the shelves washed, and the food put away, but dealing with the containers is also fighting emetophobia, so I am doing one container, then doing something else for awhile, then rinse and repeat.
