A Mosaic of Butterflies

Monarchs are roosting in the Home Base mulberry tree near the house. This is a mosaic of several dozen butterflies. When I was little, they would cover most of the tree. Now, I only see clusters like this once every few years. We're right on the main migration route, we have trees for shelter, and wildflowers for food, so they like stopping here.



When the wind blows, they flutter their wings for balance. I took a bunch of pictures, but the light angle was bad, so I only got a few really good ones. Also I had to change my yardwork plans for the day, so as not to disturb the butterflies.
