However, this type of housing/community does exist in local-America. It's just rare. There are little infill housing clusters, especially on the West Coast. There are cohousing and other intentional communities. Cohousing is more often a cluster of urban houses or an apartment building. Ecovillages and many other intentional communities tend to be more rural. If this appeals to you, then read more about it. Many such places have visitor opportunities if you wish to travel at some point.
