Yeah, my lot never threw anything out unless they had to... we had a big old steamer trunk full of family papers including a book someone in the family put together about a hundred or more years ago, that traced the family history and recorded all the stories handed down. [with documentation where possible.] It was basically the entire family history all the way back, mostly of preserved accounts by the people themselves. Diary's, log books [there were a lot of sea captains in our family] and so on.
Then about twenty years ago my Grandma White, who was a rabid social climber, threw the whole lot out because it was "old and dusty and who wants to keep a load of old nonsense anyway?"
I remember bits because I did a school report when I was kid... and I still haven't entirely forgiven her. Roughly 1200 years worth of family tradition and history, and she burned it!
