Here are the content notes for "Reality Is Stranger Than Science Fiction."
Science fiction has many purposes including thought experiments and social commentary. Learn how to write it.
Aliens often appear in science fiction. Learn how to design aliens that are realistic.
Animal sex lives include a lot of bizarre stuff.
Kangaroos have 3 vaginas (more realistically, one that forks).
Nudibranchs engage in penis fencing and sometimes apophallation.
The Argentine Lake Duck has a penis longer than his body.
Male barnacles have the largest penis proportional to its body size in the animal kingdom. It can reach up to 50 times the length of the barnacles’ body. It reaches out of the shell and transfers its sperm to a female neighbor. After fertilization, the female barnacle broods its eggs until they hatch as a minute nauplius larva which swims until it transforms to another larval stage called a cypris that then settles head-down on a suitable surface.
In whiptail lizards, two females can stimulate reproduction in each other.
Some male cuttlefish disguise themselves as females.
Anglerfish females have males attached as small growths.
Cotton-top tamarins have fathers raise babies.
Gas giants often have a combination of hydrogen and methane.

Yes ...
Date: 2021-07-13 04:27 am (UTC)I did write that with nudibranch-type aliens.
Re: Yes ...
Date: 2021-07-13 04:41 am (UTC)Alien1: "You're /sure/ this one is female?"
Alien2: "Well, every time anyone tries to explain the proper way to do things she fights them...and wins."
Alien 3: [Wince] "Eventually we all agreed that we'd let her be human-gendered...and not count her spars as [gender-reveal-duels]."
Alien1: "You wusses!" [Challenges human & looses. Continues challenging human and losing.]
Other aliens: [Laughing & taking bets]
Alien 1: [collapses] "..Okay, what were those rules for sparring with humans again?"

Also, alien feminism, Discworld dwarven style.
