Cuddle Party

Everyone needs contact comfort sometimes. Not everyone has ample opportunities for this in facetime. So here is a chance for a cuddle party in cyberspace. Virtual cuddling can help people feel better.

We have a cuddle room that comes with fort cushions, fort frames, sheets for draping, and a weighted blanket. A nest full of colorful egg pillows sits in one corner. There is a basket of grooming brushes, hairbrushes, and styling combs. A bin holds textured pillows. There is a big basket of craft supplies along with art markers, coloring pages, and blank paper. The kitchen has a popcorn machine. Labels are available to mark dietary needs, recipe ingredients, and level of spiciness. Here is the bathroom, open to everyone. There is a lawn tent and an outdoor hot tub. Bathers should post a sign for nude or clothed activity. Come snuggle up!

For Easter, we have Pineapple Orange Green Tea, Rainbow Deviled Eggs, Green Salad with Sprouts and Edible Flowers, Rosemary Rabbit, Oven-Roasted Purple Asparagus with Thyme, Hot Cross Buns, and Jello Easter Eggs.

An egg hunt is going on outside for those who wish to participate.  The eggs are variously filled with cute erasers, bubble rings, clinical-grade chocolate, candied nuts, and other interesting things.

It sounds like a lovely virtual space. I could use somewhere like this to just sit and read and snack in away from the bothers of the world.

Cuddle Party runs every third Wednesday. Sometimes it gets busy, other times people just make a pillow fort and huddle.

I really wish that L-America offered social space for introverts, but there's almost nothing. It's very hard to find a quiet place to hang out, where you can talk if you want to. Libraries used to be quiet, with little space to talk; now most of them are noisy computer nests, again not ideal for cozy conversation. Coffeehouses are only sometimes quiet enough.

*ponder* We need bookworm cafes with little nooks where people can sit by themselves or chat with a friend. And a couple of big things like a pillow pit or a wraparound couch for people who like to pile together.

I figure, if nothing else, I can teach people how to throw introvert parties, so they can host their own if they have the space. Maybe the idea will spread. Many readers love it as soon as they see it, because it meets needs that just aren't getting met very often otherwise.

If you have a really big, well-divided space then you can let events naturally sort themselves into quieter and friskier areas. That tends to happen when we have more than a handful here, because the house has different areas and the yard is large. We can pull out games in the dining room, put on a video in the living room, and if someone gets all peopled out they can go upstairs or in the back or outside.

Fuzzy J comes in wearing her midnight sky robe, with black slacks and a swirly striped shirt in the colours of the asexual pride flag underneath. She puts multiple platters of Easter themed sugar cookies on the table; one is decorated with sprinkles, one with icing, and one is plain. A tub of white icing, pink icing, and green icing all go on the table along with some sprinkles, so that people can decorate the plain ones if they wish. That done, she tucks her knitting bag, some colouring supplies, and a few books into a free corner before heading back to the food table. She makes a plate with deviled eggs, a small portion of salad and rabbit, some purple asparagus, and a hot cross bun.

When J is done eating, she heads outside to join the egg hunt. As soon as she gets outside, Kitty J pops out, nosing around and supremely interested in what all the people are doing. Fire also comes out, though she is more interested in galloping around the unused part of the yard than in joining in the egg hunt.

Thanks! Usually I wear the red one in my icon, but I recently acquired the new one that is verryyyy soft, midnight blue, and has stars and moons on it.

Comes in wearing black space unicorn PJ pants, a tan t-shirt with the Old Gods of Appalachia logo on it (oldgodsofappalachia.com - lovecraft-esque cosmic horror podcast set in early 20th century Appalachia. Highly recommend), and a pale blue robe with a pattern of bare tree branches tipped with swelling green leaf buds. She is carrying a skillet of sautéed fiddleheads, asparagus tips, and fresh mushrooms and a tray of wasabi deviled eggs (https://www.marthastewart.com/315419/wasabi-deviled-eggs) that she sets on the table with the other food then fills a plate with both kinds of deviled eggs, some salad, and several slices of rabbit.

Thanks! The pants are an actual thing. I got them from Torrid and they really please my inner 5 year-old. They also have pockets! The robe is... well, it's what I would wear if I could wear /anything/. It's my first spring in upstate NY and watching the seasons turn has been one of my major pleasure here.

We sometimes get foragers at the local farmers' market and I thought I would bring some to share.

Actual unicorn pants with pockets sound awesome! The robe sounds like a beautiful thing to have in mind as an "if I could wear anything" garment. :) I've lived in Southern Ontario my whole life so changing seasons is normal to me and I forget it's not so for everyone. I'm glad you're enjoying your first spring in the new area, there is a certain magic to they way things change and grow.
