When it comes to checking every word on every label or buying only the halal-certified form of everything, likely so.

Some things are more often based on sect, like whether any contaminated medication is permissible if no alternative is available, or whether that only applies to life-threatening circumstances.

The more you try to catch, the harder it gets, hence the certification: paying someone else to do all that work. But it's not always available.

Alternatively, there are apps that will do this for you, which could be extremely useful for immigrants. Likely some of these halal/haram apps would be available in Arabic.

Bear in mind that it's just just about food, but also body care products, medicines, cleaners, everything. Halal mouthwash is particularly challenging to find because most brands use alcohol, although there are a few nonalcoholic ones.

Here are some lists:

I noticed another potential booby-trap regarding produce. While Muslims generally do not mind fertilizing with manure (a type of filth) because it has been so common, they may not be as willing to overlook blood meal or bone meal (two other moderately common fertilizers) especially if derived from pigs.

Another quirk: the animal cannot have a diet more than 50% insects. In the case of pastured chickens this is questionable. It's easily solved with meat birds by finishing them off on grain for the required time. With eggs, you would probably have to coop them and use plant-based feed or one with a lower percentage of cricket flour. How many people are going to care about the exact percentage of haram things their chickens eat? Some but not all Muslims.
