... develops better with the arts.  So that's one reason people are getting stupider: less leisure time dancing, making art, or playing music; and most schools have reduced or eliminated their arts programs in pursuit of teaching to the test.  Which students are doing less and less well because no arts. 

The stupid, it burns like hydrogen.  >_<

Eeesh. Yeah. Most of what little executive function I actually have (yay ADHD! Yay depression! Yay other issues that leave me with a deficit in that area!) Come from the theatre classes and art classes I took where I was taught how to work through a project starting from "what does it need to do?"

There's a reason why a lot of people changed STEM to STEAM and added Arts to the acronym, but The Powers That Be just ignored it.

Yes, but one of these things is not like the others. It's not impossible for one person to have talents across scientific and artistic fields, but it's rare. They capitalize primarily on different types of intelligence. You don't often see writing and art in the same person either. There's a lot more crossover between physics and engineering than physics and art.
