Today is mild and sunny.
I refilled the thistle sock.
I am amused to see that a purple-and-white viola has seeded itself onto the patio. :D
EDIT 8/1/19 -- Round 2, I watered plants. I sprayed weed killer on poison ivy. I sprayed bug killer on tent caterpillars.
The wildflower garden is doing nicely. It has partridge pea, blackberry lily, red yarrow, black-eyed susan, and coreopsis all in bloom. I think there are asters surviving that should bloom in late summer or early fall. :D

Date: 2019-08-02 02:23 pm (UTC)I've just gotten a few starts of yarrow, red and yellow. One of them is trying to bloom even though it hasn't gotten a permanent spot yet.
Thoughts
Date: 2019-08-02 06:43 pm (UTC)Up close, they are. From any distance, most of the gardens just look like a mess to typical human eyes. But I'm growing them more for wildlife, and they like it this way. ;)

Conventional wisdom is to pinch off the flowers so the plant doesn't waste energy that it will need to make new roots. I rarely have the heart to do it, and it doesn't seem to make much of a difference.

Yeah, that's what I've observed too. It's a tiny edge, and it upsets the plant. I pinched my plants according to conventional wisdom a few years ago, and rarely have I seen such a display of upset from one of my garden beds.
Nah. If it's feeling good enough to flower, it's feeling good enough to recover from transplant, and it knows better than I what it can most easily lose.
