Tuesday Yardening

Today is sunny and warm.  I filled the birdfeeders, but there aren't a lot of birds at them.

I hauled one bucket of mulch to put around the contorta willow, and another four on the purple-and-white garden.

Do you get more birds at feeders when it's raining? I noticed that snow increases demand, but I figured that rain might not. (I'm near the place-of-bird-feeders only occasionally, so I haven't seen much rain there.)

Snow and cold weather increase the demand. I say "three-bird cold" when I see three birds sharing one side of the hopper feeder. In nicer weather it's two, or even just one.

Rain and wind decrease the demand. The birds tend to huddle somewhere more sheltered.
