Hmm.. The Midwest of America also has a 20,000 year periodic cycle of droughts IIRC, coming in amplitude waves roughly 600 years apart, with each amplitude peak lasting about 100 years. I wonder if the Sahara is the same? Although it probably has a longer amplitude peak if it does, since it's a larger area and thus has a greater degree of inertia in the system.
