Ouch. I can see both sides of this one.

I can definitely see why Vagary feels gut-punched; Calliope was so delighted about having the chance to get rid of the bond that she wasn't even thinking about how her behavior was going to come across to him (and some of that is going to be holdover from his past experience with relationships). She was, bluntly, inconsiderate and brutal about it.

OTOH, I also understand what it feels like to be unwillingly trapped into being a carer for someone, because of my own experience with my father after my mother died. I did the things that had to be done, but I bitterly resented having to do so -- and it would have been much worse if he hadn't been physically and financially stable, so that all I really had to provide was some emotional support. And it was such a relief when he remarried and wasn't leaning on me any more, and Calliope doesn't even have the possibility of that kind of outlet. The bond traps her both physically and emotionally.

I do see a possibility of getting this to work out better than Vagary is afraid it will. It's much easier to accept something when you're doing it voluntarily than when you're being coerced into it, and it might be that once the bond is gone, Calliope might be willing to get together with Vagary and just hang out on a semi-regular basis. They have made a lot of progress in overcoming their initial personality mismatch, and they do have the power-team angle drawing them together. I can see a chance that once Calliope no longer feels that she HAS to spend time with Vagary, she might find her feelings about him (as a friend) becoming more positive. That's the way I'd like to see this go, if I had the ability to choose.
