>> Sympathy to Dace. Big revelations are unsettling, and plurals can be confusing. <<

So very true.

>> I don't know if I'm ever going to understand their concept of sharing mindspace or how it works to have a "house" in it.<<

Many multiples describe their headspace as a room, set of rooms, or house. Others are much bigger -- whole worlds, even -- or something else altogether. So there are patterns that repeat across different people, but each is unique in their own way.

>> It seems like it'd be very hard to get used to not knowing exactly who you're talking to, if other people are listening in, or if they're saying things about you.<<

That's a challenge for many multiples and their friends. People solve it in different ways. I suspect it's less of an issue, the more distinct the headmates are. Telling Ham and Clement apart is easy. Keane and Clement are less obvious, but Dace can probably learn how.

>> I wonder if that's going to be an issue for Dace, if he wants full disclosure for everything. <<

That's something they'll probably have to negotiate. Most people get upset if they're not told really big things fairly soon in a relationship, but conversely, the bigger something is, the less many people want to reveal it. Full disclosure is normally reserved for very close relationships, or certain professional contexts. Dace and Damask kind of fell into a relationship, and it involved some very deep intimacies quite early. That can create awkward situations like this. At some point, they should sit down and talk about what kind of relationship they want, how deep, and what that means.

>> I'm amazed he trusted Clement enough to let him do energywork so soon after. <<

Part of it is that Dace doesn't have any other close friends in the area, and doesn't want to lose this one. Part of it is that once Dace had a few minutes to get over the initial shock, he was less freaked out.

But a lot of it is simply that it's been there from the very beginning -- even Clement's very clumsy early efforts at healing helped keep Dace alive and less miserable. The affinity was there, even though Dace didn't recognize it consciously until Clement turned his power on. Healers have a certain vibe to them, which most people find soothing and a few find disturbing.

>> Did Maisie originally know Italian? <<

American-Italian, but not as well as Ham does. More of a language gets stored in the subconscious than the conscious mind, which is why comprehension routinely exceeds production. When Mindflare attacked Maisie, however, the different parts coalesced into distinct patterns -- they pull in what they needed most to respond to the demands of the moment, which is why they all have different abilities. But it means that they have less 'hidden' layers because so much of that got incorporated into whole new people. They each lack some of the depth and complexity that Maisie once had, although they're gaining more over time. What happened with Ham is that the Italian parts became a dominant aspect of his personality, thus mostly conscious instead of subconscious.
