This is one of the main topics I'm interested in studying/working on in grad school (and beyond). I've had people tell me that it's not a "public health" issue but frankly I think that's ridiculous. Like if car accidents and food in schools are considered public health issues how is this not??? It just depends on where you're approaching it from.
It's a public program with a dismal 3% success rate and crippling lifelong health consequences. People don't want to talk about it because it's an embarrassment.
