Better Than a Fidget Spinner
Mar. 11th, 2018 02:05 pm... is a butterfly knife. After release, Shiv practiced first with a blunt trainer, then with a single-edge, before going back to his double-edge. Despite its reputation for danger -- which comes from people trying to do tricks with it -- a butterfly is actually the safest kind of folding knife to use. Its construction means that, once you have it open with both handles in hand, the blade cannot collapse to cut you.

I might prompt some people to look out for a trainer. The knife itself I doubt many would feel comfortable enough using (old baggage), but a trainer's a fine fidget.

A trainer makes a fantastic fidget. It promotes dexterity and hand-eye coordination, and has a lot more versatility than most other fidgets. There is no reason to switch to a sharp blade if what you really want is a fidget.
This site offers many options. Some are cheap, others expensive. A few have practical endparts, such as the spoon. If you're only looking for a fidget, I suggest getting a double-edged trainer or a spoon, as the balance is likely to be better with a symmetrical endpart.

Wow!

Date: 2018-03-12 05:27 am (UTC):D I just caught a really cute scene with him teaching Gray how to use a trainer, though, and Shiv used his superpower to demo the moves in slow motion while Gray held onto the safe handle. It's an improved version of hand-over-hand teaching.

That would be awesome, and I witch you luck. For your consideration ...
Your Gray/Shiv prompt inspired the free-verse poem "Escape from the Loneliness." Shiv flounders over the proper way to court someone in a platonic relationship, and how to deal with a head full of bad tape when actual therapy still tends to make him twitchier.

They are switches, and each has made his own explorations in various directions and places. They just haven't switched with each other.
