Good news includes all the things which make us happy or otherwise feel good. It can be personal or public. We never know when something wonderful will happen, and when it does, most people want to share it with someone. It's disappointing when nobody is there to appreciate it. Happily, blogging allows us to share our joys and pat each other on the back.
What good news have you had recently? Are you anticipating any more?

Date: 2017-09-13 01:29 pm (UTC)Also, Mom-in-law made it possible for us to replace our oldest car with one that's only two years old and with plenty of space for unruly large children to avoid each other. I'm picking it up today!

And Nashville Indiana is our big thing-Not Shipshajuana (OK by me, really)...and then I might take her to the Itlejorg, too because Indigenous culture and she loves that.
...
I need this. I am so freaking burnt out on trying to do everything everywhere for everyone (Even if I'm not truly aware of it) and falling prey to a complex I didn't know was so much a thing that I just...I need this.
I hope to all the gods this trip is as fun as I'm expecting because so much else is up in the air right now. >.>

Date: 2017-09-14 03:43 pm (UTC)Bad news preceding good: I didn't see an oncoming car at a two way stop and totaled my car. Good news part 1: no one was hurt. Given the state of the metal wrapped around us, that qualifies as a minor miracle. Good news part 2: I've already managed to replace it with a minivan. Easier on my hips, and my mom can get in and out of it without help, which means I can can also sell her car.
And final, unalloyed good: I am DONE with mom's house as of Sept 29th. Henceforth if I drive down to Indy it will be because I am visiting, not working. Woo-Hoo!
Thoughts
Date: 2017-09-14 06:12 pm (UTC)As for seeing things without realizing how bad they are, it is difficult to deal with a shifting baseline and calculate how bad it really is and what should be done about it. A method that I have found useful is this:
When you start to worry about something, try to figure out what kind of problem it might be. Then look up a list of indicators for that type of problem. Note how many of them apply at that time. Figure out some problem-solving methods and try them. Preferably, begin with solutions which are simpler, easier, cheaper, and less disruptive. Wait a while and check again. Over time this will tell you if the problem is getting smaller or bigger. If bigger, then look at the remaining things on the list. Make a plan for how you will handle each of them. Think about what number of items, or which of the worst examples, would tell you it's time to raise your response plan to a higher level, such as considering professional help.
