Sure it gives you moral credit: that's Level 1.1 (the lowest). Doing it because it's right is either Level 2 or Level 3, depending on why you feel it's right, i.e. the source of morality. Society and law are Level 2, social contract and universal principles are Level 3. Most people progress through some of the stages over time.
