you can adjust the proportions of each ingredient as you see fit, the basic ingredients of hummus are:
Tahini paste (you can make this from scratch or use store bought) between 2 tablespoons and a quarter cup chick peas (either soaked, boiled, cooled, and drained or canned, drained, and rinsed)ranges depending on amount of dip being made and whether you are using bulk dry chick peas or canned from one can (usually 16 or 20 oz cans) up to 3 pounds of dried chick peas lemon juice ranges from a sprinkling to the juice of a whole lemon garlic ranges from 1 or 2 cloves to an entire bulb...sometimes roasted often just left raw olive oil (garnish) drizzle paprika (garnish) dash
You use a food processor to combine and blend all of the ingredients into a paste, if you want a thinner hummus you can use a bit of water either fresh or reserved from the cooking process to do so.
