Virginia's Natural Tunnel (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Natural_Tunnel_State_Park) has a legend about the (cliche) star-crossed lovers leaping off the highest point above the tunnel together. A more inspiring story might be the true history of the Carter Family (see Mark Zwonitzer's book "Will You Miss Me When I'm Gone").
Maryland...I've not (yet) published a true, weird story of karma in the big storm of 1989. "Gorgeous" Prince Georges County has its Goatman (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goatman_%28Maryland%29). Frederick has Barbara Frietchie. The War of 1812 seems to have been Maryland's moment in nationwide history but it's still a pretty little state :-)
