If you want to make friends with Death, gods know he could use more friends. Just try to be gentle. Mostly nobody ever notices him except to scream or make threats, which sucks and makes him skittish in some ways. He can put on a good show of confidence, but underneath that he's lonely.
Also he loves poetry, if you want a bit of common ground to chat about.

Terry Pratchett did rather a good job of portraying Death.
"The Shadow Lover" is another favorite.
