To demonstrate your original point, just look at the Republicans yelling "small government" when federal laws go against them, and "state rights" when city laws do. It's like the chaotic neutral character who always argues in their own favor, even if it contradicts what they said last time.
Boomerang bigots are different, and dangerous for a lot of the same reasons as suicide bombers. When you can't rely on someone's sense of self-preservation, they're pretty far out from the human norm.
