I've noticed that what makes a poem dark is often more about the context (whether or not a character has support) and the moral arc (whether or not bad behavior is presented as laudable, whether or not the bad guys get away with it) than about the events per se. I still tend to warn for major triggers because some people can't or don't want to read some things.
