Forgiving to a point. Some of Shiv's bad habits would get him blackballed very quickly, and not everyone would notice why he's behaving that way. Conversely, some of his triggers would get hit the minute he walked into pretty much any kink club without an escort and proper advertising. But it's still true that there's a lot of potential for him, if he can avoid the pitfalls.

Don't underestimate the amount of logjamming from Warden Daley. More resources will be forthcoming.

That's almost literally how Shiv envisions it. He has a sort of rubbery black wall in the back of his mind that he shoves things into if he can't deal with them. It's how he manages to be as sane and functional as he is, after all the crap that happened to him. But sometimes the wall ruptures, and bad things leak out. It's not a great solution, not a long-term solution, but it has kept him going. Dr. G understands that and doesn't want to dig too deep until Shiv is ready for that. I suspect that Dr. Bloch has some idea what's going on in there, even though his specialty is more physical than mental. You can't do deep work like that until the person has a solid enough support network to compensate for amount of flailing around that happens after disengaging prior safety mechanisms.
