State of the Air Conditioning
Jul. 12th, 2016 08:53 pmThey finally brought out a temporary unit to cool the living room, which helps somewhat.
The parts are on backorder. There is no indication of when they will ever arrive. They are only available from one company. This is the second central air system we've had in 12 years. They're fantastic when actually working. But they are ruinously expensive and almost impossible to fix when they break. And of course, these parts won't actually fix the damn machine, only make it possible to determine what else is broken, which might or might not be fixable and will probably take more months and months to repair.
I am left with the conclusion that the quality of both equipment and service in this industry is Russian-Monday, and the providers simply do not care if customers live or die.

Date: 2016-07-13 07:19 am (UTC)Russian-Monday? All my searching finds nothing but literal uses.
Well...
Date: 2016-07-13 07:25 am (UTC)It's a reference to a very real issue with the Russian supplies: anything made on Monday or Friday tended to be crap, because the factory workers were glum and/or hungover on Monday and rushing to get to the weekend on Friday. Trouble was, the goods weren't marked, so there was rarely a way to tell when something had been made. But with large items like cars, sometimes you could know for sure, and the difference was really obvious in how terrible they were.

Date: 2016-07-13 02:46 am (UTC)There's no accountability anywhere, nobody to complain to and say, "Hey, fix this!" They don't have to help. They don't have to do it in a timely manner. They don't have to make products that actually work. It's insane.

Date: 2016-07-21 03:48 pm (UTC)It's normal for people to try to cut costs and find "efficiencies" but we've gotten to the point that all of those benefits are going straight to capital with ever decreasing amounts for labor. That's going to hurt us.
