>> You know, I'm more worried about Simon and Tolli having enough time and resources to deal with Shiv's emotional/intellectual meltdown when he realizes that he now has PROOF that people were lying to him, ignoring and neglecting him and his education... and he is NOT STUPID. <<

Yyyyyeah. That's likely to be as wrecktastic as finding out they lied to him about his educational opportunities.

It's kind of an odd half-step because if you mention practical things, Shiv is prone to say something like, "I'm a supervillain. I'm not stupid." Frex, his response to cutting himself with his first butterfly knife was to get the cut stitched up and then buy himself a (blunt) trainer to practice with. But if you mention something academic then Shiv thinks he is stupid because he's been told that repeatedly for years. >_<

One of the most valuable things would simply be showing him that there are different types of intelligence. His reading of text may be below average, but his reading of pictures is well above average, and so are his speed and dexterity. So he's good at visual and kinesthetic intelligence rather than linguistic or logical-mathematical. And then this happens.

>> Because that's such a world-changing idea, I think it'll happen in drips and drabs, as much as he can cope with in a given moment. <<

Hopefully so.

>> Otherwise, catastrophic is probably a KIND word for the complete shattering of one of his taught bits of bedrock. He was taught to believe that he was stupid, that he couldn't learn, <<

It's likely to cascade at some point. "Why didn't anyone TELL me?" is turning into a major trigger for him. It blows a fuse in his executive function. *ponder* I'm starting to get an ugly suspicion that one of his abusers liked to reveal rules only after they had been broken.

>>by the very teachers responsible for his (so-called) education. <<

For certain very loose definitions of "responsible."

>> Been there, done that, but I didn't have access to a superpower which would make it very, very dangerous to parrot the usual 'reasons' at him when he starts demanding answers. <<

Sooth. Something Shiv and I share is the ability to cut people with words. It took a while for my ethics to grow in, let alone my control. So yeah, combine a superpower with no brakes with harassment and people are going to get hurt. Most of them learned not to provoke me too much.

>> Like I said, EFA will save LIVES in this case. <<

I agree. Dr. G, Dr. Bloch, Ambrose, Simon and Tolli are all keenly aware of this and trying to get Shiv enough support that he doesn't hurt himself or others by sheer accident.
